In my free time I love to be in nature, walking, sea swimming (all year round) gardening, paddle boarding and just generally being outside as much as time allows. I also enjoy a wide variety of music and literature.
I think I do two things well.
- I have an answer for everything!
Joking apart, from the student at the front who wants to complete an advanced pose to the confused person at the back, I want everybody (and every body) to be working at their optimum. Everyone in class will have something they can do easily along with poses that seem like remote possibilities. With every posture differentiation will switch between students.
Everyone has a party piece, and it is my job to recognise what that is and even more importantly, recognise when someone needs help. - Therapeutic Applications of Yoga
Since I first qualified, I have been fascinated by the therapeutic aspects of Iyengar yoga. I shadowed my own senior teacher for over 3 years in her Therapy class, studied Therapy with Stephanie Quirke in Dublin over 4 years and I have also assisted in the Therapy classes in Pune at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute. Last year I was awarded therapy status by the
IYUK Therapy committee. This is probably my proudest achievement to date. Training remains ongoing for all Therapy teachers; we are constantly being brought up to date with new methodologies and ideas. In therapy classes we assist students with a wide range of health conditions from the musculoskeletal, physiological and emotional. Research has shown the Iyengar yoga therapy can help with Anxiety, Carpal Tunnel, IBS, Covid-19 (and long Covid symptoms) Asthma, auto immune diseases to name a few. The therapy class is by appointment only and runs in four week blocks (see timetable)
I have five wonderful children who are both the pride and the joy in my life and a Cornishman who is as steady as Cornish granite (the stability to my mobility!)
Life is a wonderful thing.
